Safe Skincare Routine during Pregnancy

Helllo Lovelies!

I promised to write a post on pregnancy. I know you wandering why I am focused on pregnancy. Well time for the big reveal.........Drum roll............ I am going to be a mother! Hurray!!!! (Dancing Shoki).

It has been an amazing journey and I have learned a lot. From the morning sickness to my cravings to the growing bump; it has been incredible. Enough of my mumbo jumbo

I decided to do a post on safe skincare routines suitable for pregnant women. Pregnant women know that whatever they put or don't put in their bodies is very important to the well-being of their growing babies, whether it is d right amount of protein or amount of caffeine. But many pregnant women don't know that what they put on their bodies is also very important.

Most of us slather a lot of lotions every day, but we don't think about what might be passing the skin barrier and being absorbed into our bodies. With a growing baby in your belly, it is very important know what to use on your skin.

When I realized I was pregnant, I stopped my daily skincare routine and used a very mild oil on my skin. I noticed I was having blackheads and breakouts. I decided to do a little research on skincare products to use during pregnancy that would give me a glowing skin and as the same time be safe for my baby.

From my research, these are some of the ingredients pregnant women are adviced to stay away from when picking a health skincare product.

RETINOIDS

Retinoids are found in some anti-aging moisturizers, and are lauded for helping in the reduction of wrinkles and improve skin tone. Retinoids are a type of vitamin A that speeds up cell division and prevent skin collagen from breaking down

Dermatologist have adviced pregnant women to stay away from Retinoids. Studies have shown that high doses of vitamin A during pregnancy can be harmful to an unborn child. And oral retinoids, such as isotretinoin (Accutane; an acne treatment), are known to cause birth defects.

But don't panic if you have been using skincare products that contain Retinoids, studies have shown that Retinoids are not harmful in their topical form. But dermatologist are just being extra careful.

SALICYLIC ACID

This is a mild acid used to treat certain skin disorder, including acne and it can be found in cleansers and toners. It can penetrate facial oils to get deep into pores and clean out dead skin cells. It is in the aspirin family, so it can also help reduce inflammation or redness. BHA is a form of salicylic acid and is used in some topical exfoliants to reverse signs of aging.
But salicylic acid is another no-no for pregnant women. High doses of the acid in its oral form have been shown in studies to cause birth defects and various pregnancy complications.
